Fugitives

Heather Chontos has gone to live far away, almost a piece of land in Portugal at the very tip of the continent.

FUGITIVES presents her escape, a body of work created over the past few months that inhabits the gallery of sculptures and canvases. An exploration of multiple media: domestic fabrics, wood, plaster, earth... all elements that she blends into her writing composed of acrylics and oil sticks.

There is something wild in his art, an unexpected disorder, like falling in love. Everything jostles and reverses itself with force and noise. There is a change of scenery in his life and in his work, this way of stripping away the superfluous, of going to the essence of gesture and color, which suddenly reveals its hidden meaning, like a rising wind. Something obvious emerges in the unstable balance of a free composition.

It is the wonder of a charcoal black sliding against a lunar and melancholic celadon, the subtle light of a fragmentation of golden colors.

Something tangible, something engaged in the body, nourishes the gesture and speaks of its virtue of authenticity.
