Odeon
MIRKO BARICCHI
Odēum,
a Greek building intended for musical auditions and recitals, assemblies, and a prelude to the urban Dionysia.
A meeting place therefore, where “things” happened.
At the same time, different intellectual expressions confronted each other, different styles,
different cultural origins, and stylistic experiments.
I imagined my canvases, their simple geometry that composes them like the sides, the
boundaries of an Odeon. A small theater inside in which real shows take place, where images develop, take directions sometimes unexpected, thanks to the magic of painting, and gesture.
My style? I have always thought that my way of painting is not easily definable. I am influenced by everything that is life, a leaf or a perfume are for me the origin of images, a stain on an old wall, a book cover, a film, or looking again at a canvas by Giorgio Morandi, my favorite master. So my work, mainly my current work is just a set of feelings, directions, a love for the pictorial material and a love for the creation of images that didn’t exist even two minutes before. Events happen in a painting, signs are erased, letters become shape, small minimalist animals float in gray waters. It’s just like a show, and the canvases are small theaters. Light clouds greet simple but intense geometries, it’s very complicated to be simple but not easy.
I hope my paintings make you feel good.
LOVE.
